Pan-American Scholars Program

It is with pleasure that the Botanical Society of America (BSA) and the Latin American Botanical Society (ALB) announce the Pan-American Scholar program associated with the XII Latin American Botanical Congress to be held in Quito, Ecuador 21-28 October 2018. Four awards will be made to participants ($1,500 each) who will be called ‘Pan-American Scholars’. Applicants eligible to apply must be members of the BSA (Two awards) or ALB (Two awards) and early career professionals and faculty members who have received their PhD within 5 years. Awardees will be required to use the award funds to attend the XII Latin American Botanical Congress where they will present a 20-minute talk at a mixer / mini-symposium jointly sponsored by the BSA and ALB. Completed applications must be received by 31 March 2018 and all applications will be analyzed by a joint committee of the two societies and awardees will be informed by 30 April 2018. Awardees will be formally announced at the annual Botanical Society of America conference in July 2018.

Applicant Process -- Submit the following by email in a single *.PDF file:

  1. A short description in English, Spanish or Portuguese (not more than 2 pages double spaced, 12 point font and one inch margins) of your research program stating how your research relates to the Latin American / New World Flora and the mission of the XII Latin American Botanical Congress www.clb2018.org
  2. An abstract of a 20-minute presentation that you would present at the BSA / ALB mixer and mini-symposium at the Congress.
  3. A short 2-page CV.
  4. Have submitted two short recommendation letters supporting your application.
